A shipping container home is a dwelling made from steel shipping containers—large reusable intermodal containers that transport goods. Shipping containers are available in two sizes: 20 feet by 8 feet or 40 feet x 8 feet: The 20-foot containers are 160 square feet, while the 40-foot shipping containers offer 320 square feet of living space. You can use these containers as a standalone home or personal office, or you can combine multiple containers to create a multilevel residence.

  • It is prefabricated in the factory, which does not take up construction time on the site; it can be modularly assembled, which is convenient for transportation and can be moved to achieve recycled use.
  • Since they are originally built for transport, they can be easily moved when they need to be.
  • Designed to carry heavy loads ,stacked in columns, resist harsh environments - weather and resistant to salt corrosion etc.
  • Steel shipping containers outlive their usefulness as cargo carriers within 5 years, and they used to site abandoned at shipyards for years. What we are doing is reusing these containers promoting “Go Green" sustainable living / environmentally friendly.
  • container homes are cheaper to use for a house foundation. It is a great relief for people who wants to have a charming house without costing much.
  • Fast to build. Usually, a 50 square meters' house takes 5 workers to complete in 1-3 days.

Disadvantages:
  • Still need a building permit and build codes (same as usual residential)
  • Finding contractors with experience ;
  • You have a significant advantage if you already possess a piece of land. But if not, then you need to get one first before you can purchase a prebuilt home.
  • Finding the right location to build is not that easy because you have to see if the place can easily hook up for electricity and water connection and so on. Besides, even if you found an accessible place, you have to check its zoning laws and building codes to avoid any issues in the future.
